Possibly the ultimate Rare Hideaway – a description that certainly applies in terms of its remote location up, up and away from it all in the wildest of Wild Wales. We’re talking about the Cambrian Mountains and, specifically, Pumlumon, hundreds of square miles of high moorland, forest and hidden lakes inland from Aberystwyth.This unexplored landscape of pure emptiness has a compelling character unmatched by many better-known parts of rural Wales, which seem tame by comparison.

Llechwedd Mawr is splendid isolation personified.There are no neighbours.There is no Tarmac road to it (you have to drive on a well-surfaced gravel track and cross a ford to get there: a 4×4 or vehicle with good ground clearance is recommended). There is no noise (great for the soul) or light pollution (great for stargazing). It’s off the beaten track, but anything but rough and ready.

It is OFF-GRID yet with all modern comforts, it can be a wonderful experience and educational.

The three-bedroomed stone cottage has been immaculately refurbished with an open-plan living/dining area, neat kitchen, slate floors,leather sofas, attractive bath/shower rooms and a woodburning stove.

Bring your binoculars for big mountain views and birdwatching. Bring the map and follow the spectacular mountain road past the inky Nant-y-moch reservoir to Ponterwyd. Bring your mountain bike and walking boots.

The nearest shops, pub and restaurant are eight miles away. But you aren’t entirely unplugged from the outside world – there’s Freesat TV and wifi.

Hello Evan, just to let you know that we are having a fabulous time. We climbed Pumlumon yesterday, the boys are climbing every hill that they see. We have managed the generator and everything in the house is perfect. The stars last night were incredible and we already don’t want to go home!
