About Us
The Evans family has deep roots in the Talybont area, having farmed this beautiful part of Wales for over fifty years. In 2008, we began an exciting new chapter — transforming the derelict farm buildings at Tynrhelyg into the warm, welcoming holiday cottages we share with guests today.
What began as a vision quickly turned into a labour of love. Over the course of three years, every stone was carefully placed, every detail thoughtfully considered. Our goal was simple: to create something special — a peaceful escape that guests would remember and return to.
Our very first visitors arrived to celebrate New Year 2011. We weren’t sure what to expect — but their heartfelt words in the guestbook meant the world to us:
“We would like to say a big thank you to Evan and Carol who have made our stay here very enjoyable and have been abundantly hospitable. They have been helpful, kind and knowledgeable — nothing has been too much trouble. We very much enjoyed the Farmers Weekly and the Sloe Gin! The cottage has exceeded our expectations: the quality of finish, layout and location. We don’t want to go home!”
These words captured exactly what we hoped to achieve — not just a holiday rental, but a genuine welcome and a home-from-home experience.
Award-Winning Hospitality
In 2017, we were honoured to receive the “Best Aber Welcome” Hospitality Award — a recognition that means so much to us, because offering a warm, genuine welcome is at the heart of everything we do.In 2016, we sadly lost Carol, whose kindness, attention to detail, and warm hospitality helped shape the spirit of Tynrhelyg Cottages. Her memory continues to be a part of everything we do here.
Today, Evan continues to look after the cottages, supported by his family and two incredibly reliable, friendly cleaners who are as committed as we are to making sure every guest enjoys their stay.
We take great pride in the personal touches — getting to know our guests by name, sharing local tips, and ensuring you feel part of the place, not just a visitor. Over the years, we’ve been lucky enough to make many good friends who return year after year.
